Your Phone App Now Shows Android Notifications In Windows 10
At its fall event, Microsoft not only launched new Surface computers, but also announced the availability of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. What was the top new capability in that release? The Your Phone app, which allows for easy sharing between a smartphone and your PC.

Microsoft would love to get the same functionality on iPhones, but Apple closely guards its ecosystem. Android is a lot more customizable than iOS, even letting you drop in a different Launcher home screen for your phone. With Your Phone, Microsoft takes advantage of this openness to deliver some impressive linkage between the worlds of mobile and desktop.
You've already enabled Message sharing in Settings, so now just click over to the Messages tab in the Your Phone app on your PC. You'll see that this feature is considered beta. Once again, you have the app send a notification to the phone to allow texting permission. After the phone has acknowledged your permission, the Your Phone app on the PC shows your text conversations.
The other problem is that Your Phone's texting doesn't interact with the PC's contact list, the People app. But that's not a huge problem if you manage all your contacts on your phone. It would just be nice to be able to start a text from the People app. You can type a number in Your Phone to start a text, but only contacts on the Android will be found by name.
Currently in beta on Android, the Microsoft Launcher can show this timeline from your PC on your phone. You can opt into the preview version at the bottom of the Launcher's page on the Google Play store. After a brief delay, you're enrolled, and then you must update to the beta version of the app.
Your Phone was first introduced during Build 2018. The app is intended to allow users to sync their smartphones running Android or iOS with Windows 10. The app allows syncing Messages, Photos, and Notifications with a device running Windows 10, e.g. to view and edit photos stored on your smartphone directly on the computer.
Since its first introduction, the app has received tons of new features and improvements. The app supports Dual SIM devices. In addition to the battery level indicator, and inline replies, the app is able to render the background image of your smartphone.
The Your Phone app in Windows 10 is able to receive notifications from the linked smartphone. The app shows them in a special area as a list of tiles. A new feature, currently available to select Insiders, allows pinning the list entries to the top, so important notifications won't go down, and you won't forget about them.
Once set up, Link to Windows is extremely simple and intuitive to use. And, because of the native integration on Galaxy devices, you can connect and disconnect from your phone with a single tap within the quick panel.
With Link to Windows, you now stay more focused when working on your Windows PC because your notifications, messages and calls are easily accessible. You also have a handy option for transferring photos to your PC.
The bigger news is the introduction of phone notifications to the My Phone app. Users of the excellent Pushbullet---one of our Top Five Chrome Extensions You Should Be Using---will be familiar with this feature, which shows your handset's notifications in Windows 10.
On Windows 10, Your Phone is an app available starting with the October 2018 Update that further integrates your phone with your computer. It's a "window" that gives you quick access to your pictures and notifications, and it allows you to send and receive text messages. It all happens wirelessly and without you having to unlock your phone.
Quick Note: In addition to the Windows 10 steps, we're also outlining steps to change the settings on your Android phone, and because the experience isn't the same across devices, it's likely the settings in this guide will be a little different on your phone. If you can't find a particular option, it's recommended to check your manufacturer support website for more specific steps.
Your computer and phone won't connect unless the two devices can communicate. On your mobile device, swipe down from the top, and confirm that it's connected to the same wireless network as the computer you're trying to connect.
The new phone experience works using a Microsoft account, which means that you need to make sure that you're signed in to the Your Phone Companion app (on your Android device) using the same account that you're using on your PC.
Your Phone App by Microsoft allows users to connect their Windows 10 and Android phones. The app on Windows 10 shows notifications and photos from your SmartPhone and allows you to make calls and send messages from the app itself.
The problem, though, is that if you choose to use a custom Android launcher instead of your device's default home screen setup, you lose out on the Material You magic with your most viewed icons. (And if you're using any phone other than a Pixel, odds are, you aren't seeing the auto-themed icons no matter what.)
That change still drives certain Android-owning mammals batty, as I'm reminded by the frequent appearance of emails about it in my inbox. But if you'd rather have your phone's volume buttons adjust your ringer volume by default, like they used to a few Android versions back, there's a surprisingly easy way to make that happen.
Just open up the System area of your phone's settings, tap "Gestures," then tap "Press and hold power button." On the screen that comes up next, flip the toggle next to "Hold for Assistant" into the off position, then bask in the restoration of logical, intuitive order.
It switches the colours of your screens, to give everything a black or dark background with white text and objects. You can use it on your phone or computer, on just specific apps or across a whole operating system.
To connect AirPods to an Android phone or tablet, first turn on Bluetooth on your Android. Then, open the AirPods case with the AirPods inside; press and hold the Pair button until you see the white LED light indicating that the AirPods are in pairing mode. Next, tap your AirPods from the Bluetooth devices list on your Android.
You might want to stop certain Reddit notifications if they pop-up every now and then on your device. And, you might be interested in turning off all Reddit notifications if you only use the platform to read content and not be notified about anything.
If you have already tried restarting the app and rebooting the phone, but the Outlook app is still not syncing your emails, calendars, and files, it is possible to reset the app to fix this and many other common problems.
Keep scrolling down to adjust your notification settings from different websites. To stop all notifications from any website, toggle the switch to off next to Show notifications. Or, keep the toggle switch turned on, but allow notifications only from the sites you really want.
Under Sites can ask to send notifications, toggle the switch to off. Then you can use your Block and Allow lists to adjust your notifications precisely how you want them.
For these purposes, we combine data we collect from different contexts (for example, from your use of two Microsoft products). For example, Cortana may use information from your calendar to suggest action items in a heads-up email, and Microsoft Store uses information about the apps and services you use to make personalized app recommendations. However, we have built in technological and procedural safeguards designed to prevent certain data combinations where required by law. For example, where required by law, we store data we collect from you when you are unauthenticated (not signed in) separately from any account information that directly identifies you, such as your name, email address, or phone number.
